WordPress Developer

We're a digital agency managing WordPress websites for a portfolio of clients across media, professional services, and e-commerce. Development work has been handled by a rotating cast of freelancers — no consistency in how sites are built, no documentation, and every handoff creates new problems. We need an in-house WordPress Developer who can become the standard for how we build and maintain client sites.

You'll work on a mix of new builds and ongoing client maintenance — custom theme development, plugin builds, third-party integrations, performance optimization, and regular updates across the portfolio. You'll collaborate closely with the design and project management teams to deliver work on schedule and to spec.

What you'll work on

• Building custom WordPress themes and page templates from design specs — clean semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript without relying on page builders
• Developing custom plugins and WordPress functionality in PHP — extending core behavior with maintainable, documented code
• Integrating third-party services into WordPress sites — CRMs, email platforms, payment gateways, booking systems, and custom APIs
• Performance optimization across the client portfolio — caching configuration, image handling, database cleanup, and Core Web Vitals improvements
• Managing WordPress core updates, security patches, and plugin maintenance across multiple client sites on a regular schedule
• Writing clear technical documentation for all custom code so future developers can understand and build on your work

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional WordPress development — custom theme and plugin work in code, not page builders
• Strong PHP, HTML5/CSS3, and JavaScript — able to build what a designer specifies from scratch
• Experience optimizing WordPress performance including caching plugins, CDN configuration, and server-side improvements
• EU timezone for overlap with the project management and design teams
• Fluent English for client communication and internal documentation
