Job Description
We're a funded startup operating in a regulated space with a growing volume of contracts, vendor agreements, NDAs, and compliance requirements. Legal work has been handled reactively — whoever on the team had time looked things over, which isn't a sustainable approach as we scale. We need an experienced paralegal who can take ownership of day-to-day legal operations and keep things moving without constant escalation to outside counsel.
You'll work directly with the founders and the operations team, handling contract review, legal research, document management, and coordination with external lawyers when needed. This is a role for someone who knows what they're doing and can operate independently on routine legal matters.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing and redlining contracts, NDAs, vendor agreements, and service agreements — flagging material risks and non-standard terms before they go to leadership
- Managing the contract lifecycle — tracking execution status, expiration dates, renewal windows, and maintaining an organized filing system for signed agreements
- Conducting legal research on regulatory requirements, jurisdiction-specific rules, and applicable precedents as business questions arise
- Drafting standard legal documents — terms and conditions, privacy policies, and internal policy templates
- Coordinating with outside counsel — preparing materials, summarizing research, and managing correspondence to keep external legal costs efficient
- Maintaining a document management system that gives the team visibility into all active legal files and agreements
Requirements
- 3+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience — startup, tech, or corporate commercial environment strongly preferred
- Proven ability to review and redline contracts independently without attorney supervision for routine commercial matters
- Experience managing a contract lifecycle and legal document management system end to end
- US timezone required for coordination with the team and outside counsel
- Precision in written English is essential — legal work leaves no room for ambiguity
