Job Description

We're hiring an experienced Backend Operations Manager to take ownership of the operational side of a growing subscription-based e-commerce business.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building systems, improving workflows, managing teams, and creating operational structure. You'll work directly with leadership to streamline backend operations and ensure every department operates efficiently.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Subscription Operations

  • Manage recurring billing processes
  • Oversee cancellations, failed payments, churn, and retention workflows
  • Monitor subscription platform performance
  • Improve customer retention processes

Disputes & Payment Operations

  • Manage chargebacks and dispute resolution
  • Implement dispute prevention strategies
  • Monitor payment processors and gateway performance
  • Maintain healthy payment processing metrics

Operations & Process Improvement

  • Build SOPs and operational documentation
  • Design scalable workflows across departments
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements
  • Standardize internal processes

Team Management

  • Recruit and onboard new team members
  • Train staff on systems and procedures
  • Monitor KPIs across each department
  • Hold teams accountable for performance goals

Reporting & Performance

  • Track operational metrics
  • Build dashboards and reporting systems
  • Analyze trends and recommend improvements
  • Provide regular updates to leadership

Required Experience

  • Previous experience managing backend operations for a subscription-based e-commerce business
  • Strong understanding of recurring billing and subscription management
  • Experience handling disputes, chargebacks, and payment operations
  • Shopify operations experience
  • Familiarity with subscription platforms and payment gateways
  • Experience creating SOPs and operational systems
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Excellent written communication
