Medical Coding Specialist – US Healthcare Provider

We're hiring a Medical Coding Specialist to assign accurate CPT and ICD-10 codes for patient visits and procedures. Real, hands-on coding experience is required — this isn't a fit for someone with general medical admin background looking to transition into coding.

Day to day, you'll be reviewing clinical documentation and translating it into accurate codes, catching missing or unclear notes that would affect coding before they turn into denied claims, and staying current on coding guideline changes and payer-specific quirks. When a claim gets denied over a coding issue, you'll work with billing to sort out what happened and fix it. Everything needs to stay clean enough to survive an audit, and handled with the level of confidentiality HIPAA requires.

A CPC, CCS, or equivalent coding certification is required — this isn't optional for the role. Beyond that, we're looking for someone with strong CPT/ICD-10/HCPCS knowledge, sharp attention to detail, and comfort working inside an EHR or billing platform like Kareo, athenahealth, or AdvancedMD. A healthcare or nursing background helps you read documentation the way it's meant to be read, so it's a real advantage even though it's not a strict requirement.
