E-commerce Bookkeeper – COGS & Inventory Accounting
Clara Madsen

Job Description
Standard bookkeeping doesn't cut it for e-commerce. Between multi-channel sales, fluctuating inventory costs, and COGS that need to be tracked accurately for real profitability numbers, this business needs someone who specializes in that specific niche — not a generalist bookkeeper learning it on the fly.
The problem this role solves
Right now, getting an accurate picture of true profitability — after inventory costs, not just revenue — is a manual, error-prone process. We need someone who can own that end to end.
What that looks like in practice
Calculating and tracking cost of goods sold accurately across products and sales channels. Managing inventory valuation using the correct accounting method (FIFO, weighted average, etc.) and keeping it consistent over time. Reconciling sales and fees across multiple platforms — Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, or wherever the business sells — since each one reports differently and none of them make it easy. Recording landed costs correctly, including shipping, duties, and freight, so COGS actually reflects what inventory really costs. Reconciling inventory counts against what the books say, and investigating discrepancies when they show up. Producing accurate P&L reports where COGS and gross margin are actually trustworthy numbers, not rough estimates. General bookkeeping tasks — transaction categorization, bank reconciliation, AP/AR — round out the role, but the specialized inventory/COGS work is the core of it.
Who we're looking for
Someone with real hands-on experience doing inventory accounting for an e-commerce business specifically — this isn't a role to learn the fundamentals of COGS on the job. You should be comfortable in QuickBooks or Xero, and ideally have used inventory management tools that integrate with them (like A2X, Cin7, or similar). Multi-channel experience is a big plus, since reconciling Amazon settlement reports alone is a skill of its own. You should be the kind of person who catches a costing error before it distorts a month's margin numbers, not after.
Where you'd add real value
- Experience with A2X, Cin7, DEAR, or similar inventory/e-commerce accounting tools
- Multi-channel reconciliation experience (Shopify + Amazon + Walmart, etc.)
- Understanding of landed cost accounting, including duties and freight
- Comfort working with high SKU counts and frequent inventory movement
