Job Description
Small family medicine practice looking for medical billing specialist handling our claims and insurance processes. We see about [phone hidden] patients daily and honestly the billing side has gotten messy. Need someone who knows their way around medical billing cleaning this up.
What the job involves
Submit insurance claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers making sure everything is coded correctly. Follow up on denied or pending claims figuring out what went wrong and resubmitting. Verify patient insurance coverage before appointments so we know what is covered. Post payments when insurance and patients pay tracking everything accurately. Handle patient billing questions when they call confused about their statements. Work with our front desk staff making sure charges are entered correctly in our system. Keep up with billing regulations and insurance requirements that change constantly. Run reports showing outstanding claims and aging receivables so we know where money is stuck.
What we need
At least 2 years doing medical billing for a practice or billing company, not just taking a course. Solid understanding of CPT and ICD-10 codes for family medicine and primary care. Experience with insurance verification and prior authorizations. Comfortable using medical billing software and EMR systems. Detail-oriented because one wrong code means denied claims and lost revenue. Good at following up persistently when insurances drag their feet. Patient when dealing with frustrated patients asking about bills. First month is probationary to make sure it is a good fit on both sides.
